The history of La Motte goes back several centuries, to the arrival of European settlers at the Cape of Good Hope in the 17th century. La Motte was acquired in 1970 by the late Dr.Anton Rupert and is now owned and run by his daughter, Hanneli Koegelenberg. La Motte Syrah was the first Shiraz to receive a 5 star rating in the Platter Guide.
